Celebrating Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Since 1987.
The Demuth Foundation is pleased to announce a new exhibition featuring the works of local artist Mark Wagner, Art Made from Money (Made from Art), on view May 7 through July 3 at the Lancaster Museum of Art. A public opening reception will take place on First Friday, May 6, from 5 – 8 pm at the Lancaster Museum of Art.
Lancaster-based artist Mark Wagner shares his thought-provoking and satirical artwork made entirely from deconstructed U.S. dollars to explore the intersection of wealth, power, value, and American identity. This special exhibition features over 50 meticulously constructed pieces and takes a special look into the artist’s creative process.
Mark Wagner is best known for deconstructing real U. S. dollars in order to create intricate, playful, and provocative artwork. Wagner grew up in rural Wisconsin. He received his BFA from The University of Wisconsin Madison (in 1995) where he studied printmaking and artist bookmaking. Wagner spent formative years (from 1999-2012) in New York City. There he co-founded The Booklyn Artists Alliances, an artist-run nonprofit for distributing artists books and popularizing zines and other forms of self publication. Wagner’s first solo exhibition of currency collage was in September of 2008, on the brink of the global financial crisis. Since 2012 he has called Lancaster his home.
