Every February, since 2017, we celebrate Black History Month in City Hall by creating programming in the City Hall Gallery & Council Chambers.
In keeping with the City’s strategic plan, this year’s event looks to continue to promote a culture that attracts talented, motivated individuals, especially individuals who represent the diverse community we serve. We are excited to focus on the history of African Americans that have served on our City Fire and Police forces through storytelling and performance.
The evening will include shared stories, performances and performances by artists Gracie Berry, Imani Edutainers, Theatre For Transformation and Gerri McCritty will honor their legacies through artistic translation. There will be an exhibition of photographs in the City Hall Gallery will add to the stories. Refreshments will be served.
In conjunction with the celebration, Gracie Berry will install sculptural works that explore themes of the Afrikan cultural diaspora in our Station Cases at the Lancaster Amtrak Station.
All are welcome to participate in this celebration
by / of / and for Lancastrians of African descent.
