Pippin, a West Chester native and World War I veteran, created four versions of this compelling subject, which may have had personal significance for the artist. Built in the mid-1700s, the Birmingham Meeting House is located within sight of Birmingham Hill, the location of some of the fiercest fighting during the Battle of Brandywine and now a Brandywine Conservancy Preserve.
