Have you been on an awkward date lately? Creative Works invites YOU to share your weird, bad, awkward, or outrageous date stories with us — anonymously, if you’d like! We’ll be working with local writers to turn your stories into a series of short performances at Modern Art this coming Valentine’s Day Weekend. We want to tell stories from a variety of perspectives, and any story is welcome, as long as it’s true.
If we end up adapting your story for our show, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win one of five $20 gift certificates to Miesse Candies for a head start on your Valentine’s Day preparations. So, share your story, grab some candy, and come enjoy the show in February. The deadline for story submissions is December 1, 2019. Please visit creativelancaster.org to submit a story, and contact email@example.com with any questions.
Creative Works also seeks writers for the 8th annual Play Grounds: Theater on Site, which will be featured as part of Lancaster ArtWalk in May 2020. On December 7 at 1 p.m., Creative Works will be hosting a walking tour of potential locations to inspire plays for the 2020 edition of its annual site-specific performance series, which includes three original plays by local playwrights that are written specifically for the locations in which they are performed. Past venues have included Tellus360, St James Cemetery, Dogstar Books, Wolf Museum of Music and Art garden, McDonald’s, Rhyme and Reason, Zoetropolis, and various street corners and public lots.
After the walking tour on December 7, writers will be invited to submit plays written for the locations on the tour, and three will be selected for production in the May event. The writers of the selected works will be involved in the rehearsal process with directors and actors, and the plays will be performed as part of ArtWalk, a self-guided tour of downtown Lancaster City, presented by Lancaster City Art Galleries, in early May 2020. Audiences will be guided to each Play Grounds site by a traveling musician. The event will be open to the public with admission by donation.
The December 7 walking tour is free and open to all artists interested. It will begin at Two Dudes Painting Company, 750 Poplar Street, Lancaster at 1 p.m. If you have any questions, or if you’re an artist interested in writing but unable to attend the tour, please write to Creative Works Board Member Steve Carlson, firstname.lastname@example.org.
