Once again, Achenbach’s Bakery of Leola will supply the delicious treats of apples, sugar, and cinnamon wrapped in pastry. Over the years these humble but tasty dumplings have helped to return rare precious items to the Historic Ephrata Cloister, the place where Ephrata began. Funds raised with the apple dumplings stay right here and to support the educational programs at the museum. Each year thousands of people travel from around the globe to discover this early community. Today, the site has earned the exclusive distinction as a National Historic Landmark, only one of five in Lancaster County. This means that the significance of the Historic Ephrata Cloister goes beyond listing on the National Register of Historic Places considered as important for preservation, to have the qualities that contribute to the nation’s history.
