Unlike modern political campaigns, candidates in the 1800s did not go out on the campaign trail. James Buchanan was no different. Buchanan and his Democratic supporters ran Buchanan’s bid for the White House out of Wheatland, making the presidential hopeful’s home one of the busiest places in the county. In this first-person presentation, visitors will experience the hustle and bustle of Buchanan’s busy political campaign and learn about the challenges and opportunities that await Buchanan as time marches ever closer to the November General Elections.
The Presidents’ Day Living History program takes place on Monday, February 17, 2020 with tours starting on the hour at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. There will be no 12pm tour. Advance tickets recommended.
