Many hands make light work: Lancaster Cemetery survives due to the efforts of a small group of volunteers, and with your help we can thrive. Join us on the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 12:00 to beautify our neighborhood, conserve our history, and share time with neighbors.
Our work will vary based on the time of year, the weather, and the interests and capabilities of our volunteers. Our tasks range from mundane but necessary to unusual and interesting. You can probably imagine the mundane but necessary tasks involved with maintaining 22 acres of green space in an urban environment: lots of grass, lots of trash.
But what about the unusual and interesting work? We have over 150 years of information in our records. We’d love help preserving and conserving our records and our monuments, and we’d love to tell the stories of those interred in our ground. With your help we can stabilize headstones, record monument inscriptions, digitize our records, and create educational materials. We have gardens that need maintenance, and we have gardens that haven’t yet been designed and planted.
