The Historic Ephrata Cloister is offering an enjoyable escape on Thursday mornings in February and March. This lecture series explores many parts of the region’s history, along with a look at some Ephrata Cloister stories. Topics scheduled include learning a new way to look at the Pennsylvania German art
of Fraktur, learning ways to care for old photographs and investigating the close of the German Seventh Day Baptist Church at the Cloister in 1934.
Dr. Leroy Hopkins will provide information on Lancaster County’s African American heritage, and Dr. Christopher Herbert will return to share new insight into Ephrata’s music. In cooperation with the Ephrata Public Library, the two institutions have been awarded a grant from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to spend one day’s class on the Revolutionary War, with a focus on the region, as part of the “Revisiting the Founding Era” initiative. Hot coffee and homemade treats round out each morning.
