The Marietta Community House will hold a special event to honor all veterans and to celebrate Veterans Day. The community is invited to attend the ceremony to remember those who have served their country. Members of the Marietta American Legion Post #466 will join the Community House in recognizing our local heroes including Lt. Benjamin Hiestand in whose honor the Community House was formed. Lt. Hiestand died while serving in WWI. Veterans and their families are invited to attend to honor those who served our country. There will be a short ceremony with local speakers including members of the Legion Post #466. The Legion Post will highlight its program to honor hometown heroes with banners throughout the town. Over 150 banners have already been displayed throughout the town depicting local service men and women. We especially invite those who have donated a banner to attend to honor their heroes and share a few memories of them.
There will also be a dedication of additional bricks to the Community House’s Buy-A-Brick program. A reading of the inscriptions for the bricks will be presented as well as comments from the donors. Many of the bricks have been given in memory of departed loved ones, to honor living family members, or by local businesses. Over 180 individuals and businesses have donated to our brick walk. Money collected from the bricks has been used to repair and maintain the Marietta Community House for use by the local community.
Anyone wishing to have a brick engraved in memory of a loved one, to honor a family member, or for a business may contact Nancy Kulman at the MCH, PO Box 485, Marietta PA 17547 or call 717-426-1229 for more information. There will be a brief reception after the event with refreshments and tours of the buildings.
