Candlelight Open House
Now that everyone has come “over the river and through the woods,” why not take a leisurely stroll through the candlelit grounds of the historic Ephrata Cloister. Discover the sights, sounds and crafts of the past and present in a relaxed evening under the stars. Meet local artisans, start your holiday shopping in our unique Museum Store, explore the historic buildings, an enjoy music and simple refreshments.
Here’s the chance to discover the beauty of this fascinating early community in a new light. Spend a few minutes or hours visiting with local craftsmen as they share their stories and wares. Included in the evening’s event will be redware pottery by Ned Foltz and Matt and Elaine Vardjan with paper stars and block prints.
Additionally, demonstrations will be provided by the Lancaster Spinners and Weaver’s Guild in the letterpress will be working in the Printing Office.
The whole family can become craftsmen making small treasure boxes just the size for stocking stuffers. The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will be singing a short program at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m., and harpsichordist Faith Martin will add to the sounds of the evening at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
Your holiday shopping list can easily be filled at The Museum Store. Finely made local hand crafts, books, holiday cards, artwork and real bayberry candles are available. There are also books, adorable puppets and old-fashioned toys!
