Farewell To The Organ

Farewell To The Organ

The final concert on the mighty vintage 1958 analog Allen Organ will be played on First Friday, January 5, 2024 at First Reformed Church by resident organist Larry Hershey. The following week, the organ will be removed and the installation of a newly restored and enhanced pipe organ will begin. The program, “Farewell Concert for the 1958 Allen Organ”, will include “Finale Jubilante” by Healey Willan and “‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime” by Denis Bedard. Selections will also include “Nimrod” from the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar and “Funeral March” by Frederic Chopin. The program will conclude with the famous “Toccata” from Organ Symphony No. 5 by Charles Marie Widor. The free 30 minute concert will begin at 8 PM. The First Friday concert series is a gift to the community from First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ. Only 30 minutes in length, the free concerts begin at 8 PM each First Friday for the convenience of those who wish to spend the early evening visiting downtown galleries before the concert. Doors open at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to hear 30 minutes of inspiring organ music that will refresh your soul and inspire your spirit.
