Wintertime in Pennsylvania is often characterized by gray skies and colorless landscapes, however, when we take the time to examine our hibernal habitat more closely, we can discover a vast offering of flora, fauna, and fungi: Indeed, throughout all times of the year the natural world reveals a unique showcase of wild foods with March featuring foraging jewels like rosehips, chickweed, burdock root, and cattail rhizomes.
Whether you are interested in garnering a better understanding of local plant ecology, gaining knowledge about wild edibles or discovering alternative uses for plants through wildcrafting and medicine, the Horn Farm Center’s March foraging walk has something for everyone. Along the way, we will spend time emphasizing ethical foraging and ways of giving back to the land from which we’re taking–reinforcing how thinking like an ecosystem should guide our practice of gathering natural materials.
Beginners and experienced foragers are welcome.
