Each Polar Bear 5K has traditionally drawn some 200 runners and hikers from throughout the area and adjacent states. It’s become a wintertime tradition in this region, particularly because it is unique in that participants can bring along their dogs to hike or run with them–and there are prizes for numerous categories. But, most importantly, funds raised through the race are used to support the Lancaster Group’s Green Project grants, which are awarded annually to those organizations that reveal a need to support their environmental preservation initiatives.
