Barn Owl populations have been steadily declining in Pennsylvania over the past several decades. To help secure the Barn Owl’s future, Kauffman Orchards participates in the PA Barn Owl Conservation Initiative by providing nesting boxes as a safe place for the owls to live and roost. In turn, the owls help to protect the farm from small rodents that can devastate fruit trees.
Get a peek at the newly hatched owlets living at the orchard as tracking bands are gently applied to allow the Game Commission to learn more about their species.
The annual Barn Owl Banding is a fascinating educational event for the public that’s enjoyed by adults, children and wildlife photographers alike. Bring a lawn chair and learn about the Barn Owl!
